The Health Benefits of Grapes

🍇Get some organic grapes in your life!🍇

These lil purple globes are a powerhouse fruit that is amazing for your health and your skin! It’s so important to have restorative, hydrating foods in your diet when healing from eczema. Grapes are amazing because they are fiber and water-rich which is great for cleansing the digestive tract and they are super alkaline for the liver and kidneys as they help to pull metabolic wastes from them. When these detox channels are filtering properly, then eczema can’t stand a chance! We must cleanse internally to see external healing. The last channel of elimination, the skin, will no longer have the heavy burden of detoxing once the internal channels of elimination are working the way they should. You can even do a full-on grape fast as it can be the most healing for detoxification. Check out more info on DETOXING WITH FRUIT.

Check out this info from the Medical Medium in his book Life Changing Foods: “Grapes shouldn’t be misunderstood as being too high in carbs, sugar, or calories to be good for us. It’s just the opposite. Like bananas, grapes are a 1st rate fruit that promotes wellness on the highest level. They are less sweet than we think; they are more defined by tartness, which is a key medicinal quality. That sourness indicates the presence of phytochemicals critical to kidney function. If you’ve ever heard that you have elevated creatinine levels, this means your kidneys have become compromised in their ability to remove and excrete waste products from the bloodstream. Grapes are the ultimate kidney tonic-their phytochemicals bind onto the wastes that the kidneys have trouble filtering. Like cherries, grapes are an amazing liver-cleansing food. Their phytochemicals are able to dislodge debris, processed food, & by-products that can clog up lobules in the liver. Digestive benefits: grape skins hold powerful micronutrients that expel parasites, mold & other unproductive fungi from the intestinal tract. Antioxidants such as malvidin & other anthocyanins (which explain grapes’ blue, black, dark red & purple shades) give grapes the power to fight & prevent most types of cancer. Grapes can expel radiation from the body; their amino acids such as histidine, methionine & cysteine work together with their anthocyanins to become a magnet that draws DDT & toxic heavy metals out of the liver, kidneys, spleen & other organs, plus they’re a potent antiviral for autoimmune disease, which is caused by the viral explosion. Finally, grapes are an outstanding energy food. They offer a critical boost, whether you’re an athlete, constantly on the go, or you’re a thinker-that is engaging your brain all day with cognitive tasks (& multitasking), trying to excel at a given project, or in need of fuel to come up with your next big idea.”

🍇SPIRITUAL LESSON:

“When you feel isolated-living your life with little interaction or coping with shyness & yet yearning for a sense of belonging to a group that accepts you-make grapes a part of your life. Remember, grapes are bunched together. As each cluster grows on the vine, the little globes stay close to each other, connecting on both a physical & metaphysical level. Each grape adjusts to fit perfectly into place with those around it. Focus on this wonder when you select & eat grapes. It will create a sacred intention, prepare you consciously & sub-consciously to find your people, & point you towards your true home”

Recipes! – Hemp Milk

Dairy is scary, avoid it like the plague, especially if you have eczema, it’s highly inflammatory, acidic, hard to digest and mucus causing. There are TONS of non-dairy alternatives out there such as rice, oat, flax, hemp, almond, coconut, cashew & more! Check out this simple recipe for hemp milk. Simply blend in a high-speed blender & strain with a nut milk bag if you think it needs it! You can use a few dates as a sweetener or maple syrup or coconut sugar! Here’s some info about hemp seeds: These wonderful healing seeds are packed with all 20 amino acids, are high in protein (which is great for vegans & vegetarians) and are full of vitamin E & fatty acids which are great for skin health! Hemp also has phytonutrients, which are the disease-protective element of plants with benefits that protect your immunity, bloodstream, tissues, cells, skin, and organs. 💚#eczemaholistichealing

Banana Benefits

😜🍌Perfectly ripened bananas🍌😜 Make sure to always eat bananas nice & spotty because they are even better for the digestive tract and are super sweet! I’ll freeze them at this stage and blend for smoothies & thick nice cream! INFO: Never be afraid of the sugars in bananas, it’s totally different from the cane sugar & other processed sweeteners in cookies, cakes & doughnuts. Unlike processed sugar, the fruit sugar in bananas is bonded to critical life-supporting trace minerals such as manganese, selenium, copper, boron & molybdenum & a large amount of minerals such as potassium, which is one of the most critical nutrients for neurotransmitter function. Bananas are also high in amino acids that work with potassium as a catalyst for abundant electrolyte production. They are full of fiber, pulp & water & their sugar content is the very reason bananas have rich supplies of antioxidants, vitamins & other phytonutrients to help us fight disease. They are a powerful antiviral food, & high in tryptophan which can soothe sleep disorders, create calm, reduce anxiety & alleviate depression. And those who worry about Candida have no reason to fear bananas because they are the ultimate fungus destroyers, removing unproductive bacteria while feeding beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract. This also makes them b12 enhancing, because microbes in the gut can interrupt the ileum’s rightful process of producing b12. They are amazing digestive aids because they are antispasmodic on hyperactive colons, & they can alleviate gastric cramps and stress-related gastrointestinal diseases. They can help reverse colitis, Crohn’s and IBS. And lastly, they are great blood stabilizers, have stress-assist phytochemicals to get you through your day & help you balance your weight. Tips for Picking a Watermelon!

😜🍉WATERMELON TIPS🍉😜 I think watermelon (and melons in general) are a top eczema healing food to add to your diet. It’s super hydrating with its high water content, has fiber to help the digestive tract & comes with tons of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Eating melon is like bathing your body from the inside out! It’s best to eat melons first thing before other foods because they digest the fastest of fruits. You definitely don’t want to have it after a heavy meal because it will be like a traffic jam in your gut and cause all kinds of digestive distress (people at BBQs have it all wrong lol)!

I will have some fresh cut melon for breakfast (after my celery juice and warm lemon/lime turmeric tea), and then when I’m hungry again, I’ll enjoy some other fruit then a smoothie (I keep it high fruit from morning into the afternoon). A great deep cleansing tool is to do a watermelon fast/feast aka watermelon island for few days or longer. This type of mono fruit fast allows the body to clean house while putting its focus on healing because it’s only having to digest one simple food. Watermelon being super alkaline, electric and nutrient dense will aid the body in cleansing the lymphatic system and organs by pulling acidic wastes from the body. 🍉So get out there and get some melons today!🍉 ***squirting a lil fresh lime or lemon on watermelons give another depth of flavour and can even bring out the sweetness! 🍋#eczemaholistichealing

Also, make sure to beware of this GMO seedless watermelon:

Hydration!

💦h y d r a t i o n💦

Last night on our group coaching call with Abby of Prime Physique Nutrition we had members from California, England, and Australia! 😃 ***If you’d like to sign up for the Conqueror Eczema Academy and be apart of our next round of LIVE coaching, make sure to click HERE!

We discussed many topics, and one of them was the importance of getting hydrated when you wake up in the morning. It’s not only important for people with skin issues but for anyone! We have to remember that we’ve pretty much been fasting all night, so it’s not uncommon to feel super thirsty and dehydrated with extra dry skin. Getting an ample amount of liquids in you in the morning not only helps you hydrate from the inside out by bathing your organs & cells but it stimulates digestion and flushes out toxins!

This is how I like to do it… it has become routine for me and super easy to do: First I like to drink a good amount of room temperature water, then I will drink my celery juice. This is a Medical Medium practice that I’ve adopted and love to do! There are so many health benefits with it, but here’s a few:

  • it’s great for skin health
  • alkalizing the body
  • flushing out toxins
  • aids in digestion
  • it gives me energy
  • and I instantly feel like my skin is refreshed when I drink it!

I like to add a knob of fresh ginger to mine, for extra anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits. A little while after that I will have my warm turmeric tea with lime. It’s basically warm lime or lemon water with the addition of turmeric and a tiny bit of black pepper & coconut oil to make it more bioavailable & to bring out the healing properties in it. Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich. After that I will have some fresh fruit, usually, it’s some sort of melon but today I did a mix of blood oranges, valencia oranges, and navel oranges. 🍊🍊🍊 It’s always best to consume fruit as the first meal of the day because it’s super easy to digest, and hydrating… we don’t want to burden the digestive tract with heavy, hard to digest foods because as I mentioned, we’ve been fasting all night. How do you like to hydrate in the morning?💦

Thomas’ 8 Day Juice Fast Experience!

My good friend Thomas was kind enough to allow me to do a blog post on his juice fast experience. I became friends with him a few years ago when we “met” online through a Topical Steroid Withdrawal forum. We’ve kept in contact ever since and have encouraged one another through the healing process over the years. I actually got the chance to meet him in person this past summer, and it was such a joy! We got a chance to hang out, eat ripe mangos (freshly picked that day might I add!) and cook some yummy vegan curry together! He was the first person I officially met from the online world and I look forward to hanging out with him in the future again! He has been working diligently and consistently in healing his skin, and I’m so proud of his success. I love that he’s not one to shy away from experimenting with different healing methods and I truly commend his efforts. It can take a bit of willpower to do a fast, but he jumps in full on and always keeps his focus on ways that he can help his skin repair, this is what drives him to stay dedicated. This is the same mentality that I recommend to those who reach out to me needing coaching support…to always remember that it’s not a sprint but a marathon, but all of the great things that you do for your body will add up as they are all cumulative. You have to take responsibility for your health, and not make it a quick fix, but a lifestyle…just incorporating healthier foods, making sure you sleep well, stay stress-free and get enough exercise…they all go together to aid in healing.
Juicing can help the skin as it allows the body to receive a concentrated amount of nutrients that are super easy to digest (because it is juiced, so no fiber is intact) which allows the body to spend less energy on digesting food, and more energy on healing the illness. Raw fruits and veggies are packed with enzymes (no cooking is involved), dense nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and tons of oxygen for the cells. I highly recommend if not doing a juice fast every once in awhile, at least incorporating a green juice into your daily meals. I like to have my green drink as the last thing that I consume at night as it gives me a great dose of anti-inflammatory nutrients for healing at night, and it gives me great eliminations in the morning (yea, I know TMI haha). I don’t have a juicer, but I just blend it with my high speed blender. If I wanted it like a juiced consistency then I could just put the liquid through a strainer. I switch it up, but my go-to green drink is usually kale, cilantro & parsley (great for heavy metal detox), spinach, romaine, ginger, apple for sweetness, a squirt of lime or lemon (vitamin c helps you absorb the nutrients better), celery and cucumber.
Various green drinks I’ve made in the past. Make sure to switch it up and keep it interesting!

Detox Food Pyramid

I like to focus on eating simply when the body is going through a healing crisis aka flares, this allows the body to do some deep cleansing and really repair. This is a great pyramid to show you how the body can cleanse on different foods. A water fast (which I’ve done a 3 & 5 day one before) can allow the body to put its energy strictly on healing because there’s no energy spent on digesting foods. If you look into doing a water fast start off slow with a 3 day one & sort out time to do it (because you’ll literally be just drinking water, urinating and resting, no energy to do anything else). Fruit is the easiest of foods to digest, and you can see it’s next on the pyramid. Melons are the fastest of foods to digest, so having a watermelon feast is another great cleansing method (I did a 3 day watermelon feast once aka watermelon island ). As you start going down the pyramid and adding veggies your detox can slow down and when you add cooked foods and especially nuts and seeds it can slow way down. Always focus on how foods digest and look into food combining for proper digestion. When I focus on fasting methods and eating more simply & raw, I FEEL the results in more hydrated skin, more clarity, and great digestion. Healing comes from the inside out, we gotta help our detox channels in every way we can! 👍 #eczemaholistichealing

“What I Eat in a Day” Series – #1

Hey Guys!
I’m working on a new series called “What I Eat in a Day” where I will post just that, exactly what I eat in a day. This will help anyone needing some plant based meal inspiration! You can check out more info on my typical daily meals HERE.

*this pic was taken at the end of summer when watermelon was still in season lol, I’m a little last posting this up.

Breakfast

  • I always drink 16-32 oz of water upon waking up. Hydration is key first thing because you’ve been sleeping all night and basically fasting the whole time. It’s also great for waking up the digestive system. (Make sure that you’re drinking lots of water throughout the day, you want to get about 1/2 your weight in water in ounces everyday.)
  • Next I have my turmeric tea which consists of turmeric paste, a squeeze of half a lime, a tiny drop of coconut oil to make it more bio-available and half still water and half hot water. You don’t want it boiling hot, just warm enough. This turmeric tea helps to balance the ph in the body and helps to stimulate digestion.
  • About 15 minutes later I had some watermelon, this was probably 1/4 of a decent sized watermelon. Eating watermelon first thing in the morning is the BEST thing you can do as it’s super hydrating and the fastest of the fruits in term of digestion transit time.
  • Probably about an hour later I had my large smoothie which is pretty much a meal replacer and keeps me full for hours. It is half cherry + banana & moringa powder + banana. So I used 3 bananas and 1/2 cup or so of frozen cherries, and then 3 bananas and a small spoon of moringa powder. I also blended in ground flax and chia seeds for some healthy omegas! The liquid I used is half unsweetened almond milk and half water, I just make it to my desired thickness. Moringa is antioxidant rich a great anti inflammatory agent, has hormone balancing properties and is great for the skin health with it’s antibacterial properties. It’s super rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A, potassium, protein and calcium as well. Check out more info on moringa HERE . I will add it in my smoothies, and I’ve also started making a yummy tea with it with hot water and some dairy free milk and a sweetener like coconut sugar.
  • I like to eat all fruit for breakfast because it’s best to eat simply with easy to digest foods in the morning as your body is just now waking up as I mentioned above. Fruits have the quickest transit times, are full of energy, fiber and nutrients to keep you going. Plus they are super hydrating.

Snack

  • My huge banana smoothie keeps me nice and full for hours but when I start getting hungry I still like to snack on some fresh fruit and what I had was a handful of organic red grapes and 2 pulots aka dinosaur egg plums.
  • Maybe 30 min or so later I had two Brazil nuts which is great for skin health, two dates (these are my favourite as they truly taste like caramel candies!) and two homemade oatmeal banana cookies.

Oatmeal Banana Cookies Recipe

Super easy to make and very healthy for you!

  • 3 super ripe bananas
  • 1 1/2 cups of rolled oats

the rest of the additions are up to you! For mine I added:

  • a handful of raisins
  • a handful of pumpkin seeds
  • a few dashes of cinnamon, one dash of nutmeg
  • 2 spoonfuls of almond butter (any nut or seed butter works great in these)
  • a tablespoon of coconut shreds
  • a nice sprinkle of chia and ground flax seeds.

Method:

  1. Mash up bananas and incorporate your spices and nut or seed butters, then mix in well, and then the rest of your additions such as sunflower seeds, coconut, raisins etc…whatever you want!
  2. Stir in your rolled oats, mixing very well and let it sit for 10-20 minutes.
  3. Spoon onto a baking sheet with parchment paper and kinda flatten it out.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees for about 20-30 minutes until nice and brown and fully cooked.
  5. Store in the fridge.

Dinner

  • Large salad with mixed veggies, romaine lettuce and mixed greens. I always have a salad with my meals, it’s a great way to make sure you’re eating something raw and green in the day. If I don’t have a salad then I’ll try to make sure I get a green drink in at night. For my dressing I just simple put a spoon of tahini and made sure everything was well tossed and covered.
  • I made some brown rice pasta with a variety of sautéed veggies (mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, onion, garlic, and frozen kale and spinach mix) in herbs like parsley, oregano, basil, thyme and fennel. I like to top it off with some nutritional yeast (not an activated yeast, great source of B12 and has a nice cheesy like flavour).
  • Digestive period: From noon to 8pm the body’s metabolism is geared towards digestion.  When the body is in digestion mode it requires a lot of energy to complete it’s job, so it only makes sense to eat your biggest meal of the day around this time. The earlier the time frame, the better (the Ayurvedic system of medicine says the time of optimal digestive power is 10 am to 3 pm).  I personally eat my biggest meal between 2pm and 6pm, and drink my nightly green drink by 8pm.

Eczema Daily Checklist

I think it’s so so important to run down a little checklist  everyday to make sure that you’re doing all you can to allow your body to cleanse, heal & repair. •Sleeping for many hours each night is critical as our body’s can rest, fast and restore. •Drinking plenty of water allows us to be hydrated from the inside out, bathing our organs and letting us detox and cleanse. •”You are what you eat” for sure & looking at food as “is this going to aid in my healing or halt/hinder it?” is very important. Disease doesn’t thrive in an alkaline environment, that’s why I keep it plant based with my meals, super anti-inflammatory, cleansing and hydrating. •You MUST move your lymph and get exercise in everyday, it’s the sewer system the body. I like to just dance around or jump on a rebounder & do yoga! •Get some Vitamin D in your life and fresh, clean air. You need to be out in nature and connect with it, it can be so healing. •Make sure that you are going to the bathroom #2, daily! Our gut health is crucial to the state of our skin, our digestive system is our FIRST line of defense for detoxification, make sure it’s working optimally. •Dry brushing is great to stimulate our lymph system & slough off dead skin…it’s even a great method to put into practice instead of scratching. Only use natural emollients on the skin, always keep this rule of thumb, “if you can essentially eat it, you can apply it to the skin”. •Words of affirmation will get your mind right & keep your faith & hope strong in your healing journey. The words we say & think can heal us or hurt us, only speak loving words over yourself 💜 #eczemaholistichealing

Break Your Fast with Melon!

Ever had Honey Kiss melon?? 😋 It’s nice and sweet with a refreshing crisp crunch! I love to eat melon as my first meal of the day because it’s super hydrating and one of the easiest digestible foods! We have to gently wake up our digestive systems in the morning because we’ve been fasting all night (that’s why it’s called break-fast to break the fast). I like to drink 16-32 oz of water, then have my warm lemon or lime turmeric tea then eat some fresh fruit like melon. I got this at my nearest Wal-Mart actually for $1.98, super cheap refreshing breakfast., great for hydrating the skin 👍 you can subscribe to my Instagram page @ eczema.holistic.healing ☺️
