Watermelon!!!

Β
WHY DO I LIKE TO START MY DAY WITH WATERMELONS??? πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

Well because it’s not only super sweet, refreshing and delish, but super hydrating as it’s about 92% water! It is also soaked with nutrients! Did you know that each juicy bite has significant levels of vitamins A, B6 and C, lots of lycopene, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and amino acids?? There’s even a modest amount of potassium! You can even eat the rind as it has health-promoting and blood-building chlorophyll, but the rind actually contains more of the amino acid citrulline than the pink flesh. Black watermelon seeds are edible and actually quite healthy as well because they contain iron, zinc, protein, and fiber. (In case you were wondering, seedless watermelons aren’t genetically modified, as they’re the result of hybridization.) I have watermelon for breakfast after I’ve had some water first thing upon waking and my warm turmeric tea. Watermelon is the easiest food to digest, and we need to ease the body into digestion upon waking because it has been fasting for 8 hours. This hydrating fruit is like bathing our organs first thing and giving it great fiber as well to get things moving along. It’s packed with electrolytes too, so perfect to enjoy after a workout! I like to also blend it with a nice 2″x 2″ square of fresh aloe gel and a squeeze of half a lime for a refreshing juice! Get some watermelons in your life!!! Your skin will feel more hydrated, your digestion will work better and you’ll be supplying your body with awesome nutrients! πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

“Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen”

Here’s a great shopping guide to take with you to the grocery store! The Environmental Working GroupΒ www.ewg.orgΒ is a wonderful resource on the most pesticide laden AKA “dirty dozen”Β produce, and the conventional produce that isn’t sprayed with pesticides as much AKA “clean fifteen”. There is an exception with the “clean fifteen” papayas, summer squash and corn can be GMO so make sure to get non GMO varieties of these (and stay away from GMO foods all together). When healing from eczema you want to incorporate A LOT of fruits & veggies into your diet, and it’s best to get them organically grown when possible to ensure that you’re not putting toxins back in your body after working so hard to cleanse them out πŸ‘

Recipe! – Very Berry Smoothie Bowl

4 frozen bananas, 1.5 cup of frozen raspberries, strawberries & blackberries blended with 1/2 water 1/2 almond milk & a spoon of each hemp, flax, chia & 1/4tsp turmeric paste. Topped with blueberries. Packed with antioxidants for healthy glowing skin!

Method:

I like to add the hemp, flax, chia and turmeric paste into the blender first, then the berries and bananas then the liquids and blend! I found that putting the seeds first helps to get them really blended up, and not all over the top and sides of the blender. I use a Vitamix blender so it’s high powered and really blends the seeds into oblivion!

  • Hemp, chia and flax (I use grounded flax seeds) are packed with healthy whole food fats like omegas! Here’s some more info comparing the 3.
  • Raspberries – Potent in Vit C,Β potassium, calcium, lutein and zeaxanthin. They contain antioxidant carotinoids, ellagic acid and quercetin (quercetin is a natural antihistamine).Β Researchers believe that anthocyanins — the water-soluble plant pigments that give the berry its vivid color — are responsible for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Strawberries – In addition to antioxidants, they are potent inΒ folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, and magnesium. It is also extremely high in vitamin C!
  • Blackberries – Loaded with vitamin C & A, soluble and insoluble fiber and low in sodium.Β They also offer the highest levels of some antioxidants – higher than blueberries and strawberries too. The very dark color of the fruit is proof of its high antioxidant level.
  • Bananas – High in potassium, full of iron and bananas act as a prebioticΒ (stimulates the growth of gut friendly bacteria), produces digestiveΒ enzymes to helpΒ absorb nutrients easier andΒ gently chelates toxins and heavy metals from the body, due to its high pectin content. They also containΒ tryptophan (an amino acid), which is converted into serotonin… the happy-mood brain neurotransmitter which can aid in overcoming depression. No wonder why I’m always so happy when I have my daily morning smoothie! πŸ™‚
Why are antioxidants so important?
Well, your skin is your largest organ, so it is important to take care of it with antioxidant rich foods. AntioxidantsΒ protect theΒ skin by limiting the production of free radicals, which can damage skin cells.
The human body naturally produces free radicals and the antioxidants to counteract their damaging effects. However, in most cases, free radicals far outnumber the naturally occurring antioxidants. In order to maintain the balance, a continual supply of external sources of antioxidants is necessary in order to obtain the maximum benefits of antioxidants. Antioxidants benefit the body by neutralizing and removing the free radicals from the bloodstream.

External Factors of Oxidative Stress

Free radicals occur naturally within the body, and for the most part, the body’s natural antioxidants can manage their detoxification. But, there are certain external factors that can trigger the production of these damaging free radicals. These factors include:

β€’ Excessive exposure to UV rays
β€’ Pollution
β€’ Smoking
β€’ Eating an unhealthy diet
β€’ Excessive exercise
β€’ Certain medications and/or treatments

Here’s a helpful list of top antioxidant rich foods. Make sure that you incorporate these into your diet in abundance!

Did you know that Blueberries are little anti inflammatory powerhouses? Quercetin is a flavonoid that fights inflammation and even cancer and it’s found in blueberries along with many other phytonutrients. In just one cup of blueberries you will have the DV (daily values) of 36% Vitamin K, 25% Manganese, 25% Vitamin C, 14% Fiber, and 9% Copper.

They are also phytonutrient superstars because they contain significant amounts of anthocyanadins, antioxidant compounds that give blue, purple and red colors to fruits and vegetables.

Mini Victories!

Random Question… Who else hasn’t shaved their legs in forever because of healing eczema?? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ It’s literally been YEARS for me! At one point my legs stopped growing hair all together because of terrible flares, as it’s healed the hair has grown in more and more. I found no reason to bother shaving because A. I didn’t want to irritate the skin more even if it was healing nicely & B. I wasn’t showing off my legs like that anyways, just too self conscious at times. I was noticing just yesterday how smooth my legs are becoming, barely any flaking, even the thickened “elephant skin” is smoothing out…and I said to myself, “wow I might actually be able to shave soon!” πŸ˜‚ Gotta love the little victories in this healing process! I think I’ll actually be looking forward to shaving once I’m comfortable enough. I pray you all are well today, staying strong and keeping the faith in your body’s natural ability to heal πŸ™ I know how aggravating and lengthy this process is (I’m 5 years TS free! So BELIEVE me I know!) but hang in there…each day is a step closer to healing and a day more that you’re free from the bondage of topical steroids! Celebrate the mini victories and give gratitude for each day, good or bad. Trust in your body, it is your temple, it knows exactly what it’s doing! My sayings are “this time set for healing is truly only a fraction of your life” and “it didn’t take overnight for the toxicity to accumulate, so it won’t take overnight to heal…but it WILL heal!” Keep those things in mind and always have patience.

Peace & Love to you all πŸ’œβœŒοΈ

Get moving!Β

Hydrating after a workout with a bowl of sweet, crisp, electrolyte packed watermelon! πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

It’s SOOOOOO important to get your body moving to heal from eczema. I know it can be hard and uncomfortable when we sweat, it can bring on some itchiness but that’s a good thing! The sweat is the toxins releasing! Today I did some yoga with some sun salutations then some abdominal work with a kettle bell (which is very important to strengthen the gut muscles for internal and external toning and better digestion), some squats and lunges with a kettle bell and then around 13 min of rebounding just until I worked up a good sweat! πŸ’ͺ

So what’s rebounding??? Just jumping up and down on a mini trampoline! Sounds fun right?! Here’s just some of the awesome health benefits: πŸ”ΉBoost lymphatic drainage and immune function πŸ”ΉHelps improve digestion πŸ”ΉHelps circulate oxygen throughout the body to increase energyπŸ”ΉImproves muscle tone throughout the bodyπŸ”ΉAnnnnd some sources claim that the unique motion of rebounding can also help support the thyroid and adrenals! So get your bounce on and help cleanse your body of eczema! Remember to move every single day, your lymph system will thank you πŸ™

Arizona Star, happy as can be with happy skin! – May 28. 2016

I would love to share with you a healing testimony of this beautiful little girl named Arizona Star! I’m so glad that her mother Lindsey contacted me for advice on healing her eczema. I’m also so thankful that she didn’t have to experience the rough journey of an intense Topical Steroid Withdrawal. Her healing time happened pretty rapidly, by following the protocol that I recommend. Check out theΒ interview I did with her mother Lindsey, as well as progress pictures below!

The Great Protein Fiasco

Yessss! Once again Dr.Greger is droppin gems! We cannot be protein deficient, in fact most people eat an excess of protein everyday! An over excess of protein does more harm than good to our bodies, especially if we’re getting it from animal sources.

To figure out how many grams you should be getting, take your weight x 4 and divide it by 10. So for me 130 x 4 / 10 gives me = 52 grams, and I can even get away with ten grams less than that amount or even less than that! I eat a vegan diet and I hit that amount and sometimes more on a daily basis! I like to keep my macro levels to where I’m hitting 80% of calories coming from carbs, 10% of calories from protein & 10% from fat. I’ve found eating high carb low fat vegan to be the healthiest and most balanced way to live. My digestion is top notch, my skin benefits greatly (less itchy & dry, more hydrated from the inside out, less red, less inflammation, wounds heal faster & better rest at night!) and I feel lighter and more energetic throughout the day (*note to self, need to make a blog post on this soon! 😜). Eating lots of fruits gives me all the carbs and energy I need (remember our bodies run on sugar πŸ˜‰ the sugar in fruits are not the enemy!)

  • Here’s an example of my meals in the link below. This is an older post, and as I mentioned my diet has changed more to an 80/10/10 style (and currently I’m eating raw vegan). In this post I got waaaaay too much protein, and with my macro breakdown you can see exactly the sources I got it from…What I Eat in a Day – Vegan

Recipe! – Watermelon Juice

πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰Try out this super hydrating, refreshing drink!πŸ‰πŸ‰πŸ‰

Fill up your blender with…

  • fresh watermelon
  • add a handful of fresh mint (Great herb for the digestion)
  • the juice from 1 lime (balances the ph in the body with its high alkaline ash residue)
  • and about a 2×2″ or 3×3″ square of fresh aloe (soaking it in water for like 20 min or so takes down the bitterness)***
  • add a few cubes of ice…

Blend and enjoy!Β πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

***Aloe is great for the skin, it helps support the immune system and helps to regulate your digestion! It also has antioxidant and antibacterial properties!

This pic was from day two of “watermelon island”. It’s basically when you do a mono meal of a fruit for an extended amount of days (a fruit fast), I did two days on “watermelon island”…watermelon goodness allll day long! It’s a great way to cleanse the body because fruits are super hydrating, and very easy on the digestion. They clean out the system because of its water content and fiber. You can do a banana (“banana island”) fast, grape fast etc. Fasting with easily digestible fruit like watermelon (digests in like 30 min or less) allows your body to only use a little bit of energy on digesting and the rest on healing the body! Just doing the 2 days alone gave me more hydrated, less itchy and red skin! For even deeper cleansing I could’ve gone 3-5 days or even a week or more! Check out this Dr.Morse video on Fasting with Fruit! Also check out the ebook The Fruit Cure by http://www.DeHappy5.com on healing eczema with a raw food diet!
